Already In The Thick Of Things

Linny is engaged to Jared Conley for 5 whole days now and we are already in the thick of planning and executing. I'm thrilled Linny believes as I do that planning for a marriage is more important than planning for a wedding. None the less, a wedding and reception is a big deal.
I love my cell phone and it's capacity to take, send and receive pictures. I know what her ring looks like and just purchased dress. While hunting for reception "stuff" I found, photographed and sent pineapple statuettes photo to Linny for an up or down vote. She text back she loved them. They look heavy but are light weight.
And you know me well and won't be surprised that I got the pair marked down from $80 to $20. I have an idea where Linny will want to use them. Remember the urns from last summers Oregon garage sale. Well, thanks to Skippie and Garry I have the two large ones down here and Linny agreed that they'd look good at the start and end of the receiving line filled with large ferns. I love it when things come easy.

Thrifty Finds

Last summer I found this chair in a curb side pick up pile while on my walk. I hustled home to get my car and went back and yes, loaded it in my car. There was another chair just down that street that also came home with me. There was a time I would have been embarrassed to admit my thrifty practices but not now. I'm fine with it. SLK was not fine with the chairs in the garage and wanted to take them to Deseret Industries a week ago. I saved them - again - but knew I was pressing my luck so bought some spray paint and went to work yesterday.
I've learned that I'd better wear more protective clothing and foot wear in the future. And that is not dirt but black paint. I've scrubbed and scrubbed, then resorted to finger nail polish remover.

First coat.

Second chair, first coat.

I was on a roll so also decided to paint this old freebie. And since I ran out of paint and had to run back for another can of black I picked up a can of green to refresh the old metal patio table. My finger is still numb from pressing on the spray trigger for so long.

The Oregon urns and wire chairs (thanks for the chairs Trevlyn) that were painted a couple of days ago. I'm sorry I painted the urns with a satin finish but I won't lose any sleep over them either but matte would have looked better....next time.
I was running out of daylight so hopefully later will be good photo weather and I'll share the afters. I'm really feeling pretty good about my thriftiness.

The Bonus Walk

One of the bonuses of walking is getting to know the neighbors, usually by site if not name. Today during the walk I followed the SALE signs to a neighbor close by and found some treasures I thought I'd better get. Of course another bonus was all the love lavished on Kirby while there. He does me proud. Now, let me know if you think this was a treasure find or just foolishness.

Couldn't pass up this itty-bitty, hand sewn apron that will look so cute when washed and pressed. The hand embroidered dish towel, THURSDAY. At 50 cents each I bought both.
This clam shell thread holder had a tag that read "Grandma Purdy's". I love knowing who this treasure belonged to. I wonder if Grandma Purdy sewed the apron. Such an assortment of thread colors and all are on the old, wooden spools. Didn't need it but wanted it for just $1 and I do think it will come in handy. Notice the little notches around the edge for each spools thread to extend for convenience. Clever.
Five funky, kind of freaky elf ornaments that need a bit of love for 10 cents each and the old style Scrabble game with the wonderful wooden tiles for $1. Maybe I should ask you how you feel about great but "used" gifts.
Look at the great artistry here. So fallish, autumnal, Thanksgiving. And it's not on a canvas but on......an old wooden rolling pin. Even if I just bring it out with the fall decorations yearly it was so worth 25 cents. Don't you think so too?

Now my favorite treasure. A handmade, wooden box that looks just like a suit case made by my neighbor. My big splurge at $5.
Check out this close-up look at the craftsmanship. And the carpenter is such a nice, elderly gentleman-neighbor. I'll add it to my short stack of old suitcases in the blue room. Would you have purchased this for $5?

The Good and The Bad of. . .

. . . being my friend: You have my love, loyalty and I'll do most anything for you. The bad, I call you up on a Monday morning and tell you Kirby and I spotted a cool table in the neighborhood on our morning walk and would you help me pick it up and get it home. Mind you it was with curb-side trash!! Good old KMS came to my rescue and this was a very heavy dude of a table. It reminds me of Jody's with strong, heavy wooden base and then a formica woodgrain top. The two ends drop and/or the two leaves can be added or substracted. This is a find. I've hosed it down for the time being. I'm wondering how in the world will I explain this one to SLK!!!! And when he asks me just where am I going to put it I won't have a decent answer. I'm thinking the green wooden part of this table would look good painted black. Any ideas? Maybe one of my daughter's will need it in a new condo/apt./home someday soon.

And a bonus!!! For you dear friends that remember dear friend Chris Price, she has a blog and we can keep in touch with her at this location: http://www.mylifeisahoot.blogspot.com/ . Funny how yesterday in R.S. a story was told by Noelene about a set of twins (not her's) that brought a hose (running) into their kitchen and got it all wet. I was thinking that Chris did that too and her kids thought she was such a fun mom and I felt very boring...but dry. Bye for now, I have to go check out Chris's blog.
BIG THANKS TO KMS KATHY!!!
