Plant Sunflowers...

...or let the squirrels do it.

We have some pesky squirrels. They got in our garage in the past and did a lot of chewing damage.

This season they raided the bird feeder which was filled with sunflowers seeds, of course, and stored/planted them both in ground and in pots of flowers.  Next year I'll do the planting in more appropriate areas and in abundance.  They are such a happy flower.

SLC

Salt Lake City in Springtime is delicious. Tulips, iris, grape Hyacinth, lilacs, oh the glorious lilacs, flowering trees and some I couldn't identify.

It was great that most of our locals could meet us for dinner at The Red Iguana. My first time there but not my last. I see why the kids have been talking about this "killer" place.

Cool and breezy, very nice change of pace.

One Gone One Still Here

Sister Jody's time here ended today so we sadly took her to the airport. We will miss her much but with Cindy still here we had places to go and things to do.

I'll share just 1 of our "stops" today. A favorite, Whitfill's Nursery, on Glendale just East of 7th Street. A must in my book.

The old family home is on the property and is now a gift shop. I hope you'll share your feeling about sisters/family with me.

Happy day, msk

Sister Fun Continued

Today my sister Cindy put together posies from my back yard flowers and now we each have such pretties in each of our bedrooms. We are a family of green-thumbs and flowers are a joy and therapy for us. I'm not too shabby a grower but I'll always admit I'm an amateur compared to Jody and Cindy!

We also had pedicures today so we thought we'd show-off our colorful toes. We also love color. No use being dull, drab or colorless.

Wishing you a colorful day.

Hello Calla

I am always amazed at the beauty of flowers.

This year is my first at growing Calla Lilly's and they have been a joy.

Now I have to learn how to care for them so they'll re-bloom in AZ next spring.

Any advice?

Front Porch

This is my first attempt to post from my iPad so hang in there with me please.

Since I've been taking photos of the flowers on my front porch recently that have me thrilled I thought you might like to see them too. Maybe you are a flower-lover like I am.

Well I think I've loaded them but I can't see them in the message section. Hmmm.

No preview button.

Guess I'll push Publish and see what happens.

Can You Handle Anymore Flowers???

Won't you join me for a little break in my backyard,
but remember you can't be a fraidy-cat!
With all this blooming going on the bee activity is at a high pitch.
I've always claimed to have nice bees in my yard and tell the grands to do no harm.
I even rescue bees from the pool.

That white, empty-looking pot is full of seedlings from Jody's snapdragon seeds I brought back from Oregon last summer. Just ignore that mess you see in the background. Front empty-looking pot has the basil seedlings.

I live in 1980 "tract" housing and my neighbors are right on top of me.
I'm grateful that we have neighbors we've always gotten along with.

The red geranium in the yellow pot was Dori's that she gave me when I went to Utah for Thanksgiving. I keep her posted on how happy "she" is in Arizona. The little Margarita daisy next to it is a volunteer. Just love those sturdy volunteers.
My desk and computer is right behind those "Arcadia" doors and I look out at the back side of this view with gratitude daily.

And of course you remember the self-seeding African daisies. They are taking over the whole place and that's just fine and dandy with me. They are also in full bloom in the front and what a punch of color they are.

This could just be the saddest looking tomato plant ever. It wintered over and keeps hanging on. I'm even getting good tomatoes off of it. There's a lesson here about not judging by looks but by their fruits!!!

The bees are JUST WILD for the lavender and it's self-seeding too.
I've got little starts all over. It is so delicious smelling.

I don't usually get coral colored geraniums but am loving these.

This is Skippie's gardenia that has been "mine" for the last two years. No blossoms....yet.
More nasturtium love.

No close ups of the lemon trees but yummy blossoms on them too...just heavenly fragrance.

Now, I really wish we could spend time together back here. We'd just chat, and laugh and have a good-old-gal time together. I might have to move into the shade if it gets too warm though. How about some lemonade?

Nasturtiums

The many faces of my nasturtiums. Such happy surprises that have popped up in my pots. I brought the seeds back from Oregon last summer and just poked them in and around while planting the annuals last November.

Oops, missed getting some of the yellow ones with their pretty red throats.
