Feeling Thankful

Recently I started reading a blog titled
I am a believer in emergency food storage and preparation.  No, I'm not a "Prepper" like I see on television shows.  I do have extra food stored for an emergency and just like my grandmothers would have had in a pantry or basement cellar to use on a regular basis.  I actually remember well my Grandma Pearls chilly and dank cellar and I only went there once. I can still see Grandpa bowing his head so the low beams didn't bonk him and those spider webs.  The webs kept me from return trips.

This is Misty who blogs at Your Own Home Store.
I've liked her organization and encouragement to put aside some basics in case of an emergency.
She does it in a way that doesn't break the bank either. I got brave and made a comment on her blog and I won the weekly drawing of $50.00 of Shelf Reliance, freeze dried product.  I like knowing this has approximately a 25 year shelf life unopened.  Here's the link with my name way at the bottom.  It's a good blog post and I'd recommend a few minutes reading.
Tell me, wouldn't you love knowing you had extra t.p.on hand for an emergency!!!  There are emergencies popping up all around and yet I think most of us have the idea it won't happen to us.  When I read of such emergencies the news always includes how the store shelves are empty in no time.
What about a trucking strike.
Natural disaster that makes roads unusable.
Nothing would be coming into our stores under such circumstances.
Job layoff...comfort knowing you have supplies set aside.
Thank you Misty.  I'm excited about my Monterrey Jack cheese,
sausage crumbles and diced ham to add to my storage.

Just 72 Hours Worth

I'm so on-board with emergency preparedness and yet I know I fall short. If we think small at first, 72 hours, just 3 days per person it doesn't seem as impossible.
Here is a really good site to get a list of needed supplies advised by FEMA.
More thoughtful ideas for
a car emergency prep kit and
a pet emergency prep kit.

Here is another great site for
Preparing for emergencies,
Home storage and
Finances

I love the Boy Scouts of America motto:
"BE PREPARED".
Let's all be good scouts.

My heart is still so tender and concerned for the people in Japan enduring so much hardship, and heartache following the earthquake and tsunami.

I hope we are all praying for them.

Here is a MSNBC headline:

In Japan, the Mormon Network Gathers the Flock.

I realize even more that emergency preparation is not only important to my family survival but what I may be able to do for others in need through sharing.
Happy day, msk

KMS is moving back into the neighborhood. Big K and I will be altering our walk route so we can strut by and say hi in the mornings.

She's in the process of major cleaning, painting, new carpet and flooring. She is not only talented but a worker of great ability.

Here's her view out the kitchen french doors.

Yup, I'd like to live on a golf course too. Always fun at Kathy's "place" A.K.A.
La Petite Maison.
And here's a "head's up". We found 45 lb. buckets of hard, white, winter wheat at the Cost*co at I17 and Yorkshire for $14.00 a bucket. Cleaned and table ready. We've added to our food storage.
How you doing on yours?

Tents Anyone

I have really appreciated learning from blog.TotallyReady.com. Common sense emergency preparedness. Today she explains the virtue of tents...to be used not just outdoors but indoors during a winter power outage to help keep you warm. How about a little tent for a potty! Camping supplies can be invaluable. Hope you consider purchasing some basics as your circumstances permit.

I don't think I am even close to being ready for emergencies but I'm trying and I hope at least my darling kiddos will check out the above blog....often....please....thanks....bye....with love.

Preparation

Just outside my arcadia door. Not bragging, just sharing.

Thankfully, I'm able to get on SLK's laptop today so I will spend a little time with you. Picture...I'm at the desk I inherited from Kent and Noelene that I've put in the family room just next to/blow the kitchen railing. It looks like an old school teachers desk from the 50's. I love it. The Arcadia door (that's an old AZ term for a sliding glass door) is open, expecting a day around 70 degrees, Kirby is out having a sunbathe after our morning walk. It was a brief walk but I'm still recouping from that nasty, hanging on cold and brief was good. I'm really appreciating these blessings and feeling thankful.

I added another FHE (Family Home Evening) lesson to the side bar on the topic preparation . . . which can be taken in so many directions - savings account, food storage, education etc. I liked this quote from Henry B. Eyring:
"The preparation...must begin long before the crisis. Those who are prepared will be ready to answer (the call)."

Just click on this LDS Living Magazine and you'll get to the lesson. If you scroll down you can click on the pdf format and get the cutsie graphics, refreshment recipe and coupon to Deseret Book that's good until Jan. 17 if I recall correctly.
Sending you love. Would love to sk*ype with my darling grands today. :-)
