Family is coming over after church today and we will be making ice cream for our dessert. I'm trying a new recipe without eggs or cooking. If we like it I'll be back and share the recipe. Wishing you a good sabbath.

Good Sabbath - Humanitarian Service
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides relief and development projects for humanitarian purposes in countries all over the world. Projects operate without regard to the nationality or religion of the recipients.

Humanitarian service may include emergency response to natural disasters, such as an earthquake or a tsunami, or man-made disasters, such as the effects of war and famine. It may also be part of a longer-term effort to meet serious and more entrenched human needs, such as the need to alleviate disease.

Within hours of a disaster, the Church works with local government officials to determine what supplies and food are needed. Materials are then immediately sent to the area.

After urgent needs are met, the Church looks for additional ways to help with the long-term needs of the community. The Church’s approach is to help people become self-reliant by teaching skills and providing resources for a self-sustained life.

Donations, principally from Church members but also from people around the world, are used to make relief projects possible. One hundred percent of the donations given to the Church’s humanitarian services are used for relief efforts. The Church absorbs its own overhead costs.

The humanitarian services arm of the Church sponsors five ongoing global projects to help people become more self-reliant. Initiatives include neonatal resuscitation training, clean water projects, wheelchair distribution, vision treatment and measles vaccinations.

The Star-Spangled Banner

Do you know the last verse of this great anthem?
Happy Day from MSK
Oh, thus be it ever,
when free men shall stand
Between their loved homes
and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace,
may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made
and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must,
when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto:
"In God is our trust!"
And the star-spangled banner
in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free
and the home of the brave!
Go here for a moving, short history lesson on this song and what inspired it. I learned more than I learned in grade school.
Happy Day from MSK

What's The Story Morning Glory
Story 1. This is posting on Saturday but I'm composing it on Friday. I'll be in Prescott Saturday and Sunday with a group of Relief Society sisters from the singles ward. I'm told we'll be in a cabin, eating well and attending church in Prescott. Should be fun. I'm making a batch of "firecrackers" to take and share. Do you remember how addictive they are!!!
Story 2. During Friday's walk I went by this kumquat tree. I've admired it for years and after 20+ years of greeting the homeowners who are also walkers we are at a place where they invite me, plead with me to pick anytime as much as I want. Cindy, Skippie and I picked but I'm not sure if Jody and I did. Well, you can see how bountiful the crop is and at this late date the kumquats have only gotten sweeter. Much! I acturally walked just passed their house and then returned to get just a few to slice in a salad for tonight. While picking, and this tree is not by the sidewalk but up by the front steps and garage, the automatic garage door opened. I called out to them so as not to frighten them. Ed and Betty are so friendly and generous. I just wanted a few and Ed wanted to go inside and get me a bag. I just filled my two small pockets, visited and was on my way. I ended up eating 5-6 during my walk, shared 2 with the couple with the pretty desert landscape . . . you know their flowering cactus well by now. I still have enough for the salad tonight. Wish I could share with you. You do know you just pop them in your mouth and eat the whole thing don't you. A lovely little citrus flavor and the fruit is about the size of the first knuckle of your thumb. Isn't that a funny size discription.

Story 3. Here's my plate of kumquats in front of my thrifting (Goodwill) find - this lovely "coffee table" book The Taste of France. The jacket was torn but a little tape and it's more than presentable. You'll find it not on my sofa table but on a stand in the kitchen. The photos are breathtaking, the history of the food, cooking and produce of each region is outstanding. And yes, there are recipes but it is not a cook book. More travel and food history. I may get around to testing a few recipes yet. Bet my friend Becca of The Daily Grapefruit would love this and I might have to loan it to her. And where I may be intimidated by the recipes Becca would relish in them. (please click on The Daily Grapefruit and read her post 11:38 about food and motherhood...please) Yes, that's what's left of two pockets full. It was really good to nibble and share.

Story 4. About 4-5 years ago I bought a little plant at Ikea. It's label said it was an Orange Jasmine. I'd never heard of that. It's been growing on my north facing front steps and the last two years has really put out the blooms. It's gotten good sized and I will need to transplant it soon. It too is typical of a jasmine and smells heavenly.

Good Sabbath
I wanted to share with you 6 new FHE lessons I have added to my side bar. I'd love to know if any of you young mom's and dad's are finding these helpful. The power in the home is great if we will tap into it and use it for good on a daily basis. It does take work and thought but aren't our children so worth it!!
Here are a few messy, very messy, sneak views of the kitchen painting job that happened yesterday. This is just the first coat and most of the cutting-in is done. Won't Kathy be surprised when she arrives in the morning to help me paint.

But then I am the beginner and her surprise may be of another variety.
We'll see.

Now I've decided I do need to paint inside the window sills.

Good Sabbath
I love the Sabbath. Today was no exception. I appreciate the holy scriptures we feasted on today and the motivation they are in my life. Let me share with you scripture I'm sure you've read many times before but isn't that the beauty of the scriptures, being able to read and reread and be inspired. This is just one we read today. I hope you've had a good Sabbath.
2 Timothy 3:1-7
1. This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come,
2. For men (I'd include women) shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women (I'd include men) laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Our teacher pointed out that incontinent means without self control, and heady means rash or reckless.
Here's to continued learning, growth and development and a sincere thank you to Sandy H. who taught such a good lesson today.

Good Sabbath
Here is a thought that was shared in Sunday School today that I want to dwell on more:
Focus on the things of God
and not on the things of the world.
It's been such a good day at church and I was blessed to be able to address the Young Women of our ward. That is really a great experience for which I am thankful. Home now and the crock pot is simmering away and the Super Bowl is just beginning. Did you, like me, stand up during the National Anthem? I loved seeing so many players showing respect with their hands over their hearts and some even singing. I'm even more impressed with patriotism than sports. Am I sounding too worldly??? Yikes. Happy day wishes.

The Wiz
We have this grand relationship, Trevlyn and I. I freely give her my blog passwords and she freely gives me blogovers. She's a wiz(ard) at it and I'm so proud of her self taught skills!!! The nice thing too is that she is so thoughtful of my tastes and feelings and if I want her to tweak a color or pattern she is so sweet and accommodating. I've been playing around over the last couple days to change the look of my two blogs but Trevlyn gave me these surprise rescues and I love them.
You need to also check out Butte-iful Sister's for it's new look...please. Tell me, how do you like them?
I told Trevlyn I'm considering giving a prize to a blog reader of a Trevlyn blogover. Can I pull that off? Just a thought.
I hope you've had a good Sabbath. You see I have to end this on a Sabbath note. Here is one of many favorite quotes from the Relief Society lesson I'm still preparing for next week:
"May we also demonstrate kindness and love within our own families. Our homes are to be more than sanctuaries; they should also be places where God's Spirit can dwell, where the storm stops at the door, where love reigns and peace dwells." Pres. Thomas S. Monson
Today's Relief Society lesson was great and cool Becca delievered it perfectly. She's also a new blogger and I love, love reading her blog (the fact that I know the kids makes it extra appealing). Check out Daily Grapefruit for some fun. Glad to know ya Becca.

Good Sabbath
After arriving home from church today I have been reading and beginning the first steps to preparing the Relief Society lesson I will give on the 28th of this month. My text comes from the conference address by President Monson entitled "Looking Back and Moving Forward". After the first read and highlighting what jumped out at me I notice I'd highlighted so very much of his talk. May I share just one of the many passages I highlighted with you...
"Mortality is a period of testing, a time to prove ourselves worthy to return to the presence of our Heavenly Father. In order to be tested, we must sometimes face challenges and difficulties. At times there appears to be no light at the tunnels end--no dawn to break the night's darkness. We feel surrounded by the pain of broken hearts, the disappointment of shattered dreams, and the despair of vanished hopes. We join in uttering the biblical plea "Is there no balm in Gilead?" (Jeremiah 8:22). We are inclined to view our own personal misfortunes through the distorted prism of pessimism. We feel abandoned, heartbroken, alone. If you find yourself in such a situation, I plead with you to turn to our Heavenly Father in faith. He will lift you and guide you. He will not always take your afflictions from you, but He will comfort and lead you with love through whatever storm you face."
Wishing you a good Sabbath and faith & courage in any storms you may encounter.

#183 In Remembrance of Thy Suffering
In remembrance of thy suff'ring, Lord, these emblems
we partake, When thyself thou gav'st an off'ring,
Dying for the sinner's sake. We've forgiven as thou
biddest All who've trespassed against us. Lord, forgive, as
we've forgiven, All thou seest amiss in us.
Purify our hearts, our Savior; Let us go not
far astray, That we may be counted worthy
Of thy Spirit day by day. When tempatations are be-
fore us, Give us strength to over-come. Always guard us
in our wand'rings Till we leave our earthly home.
When thou comest in thy glory To this earth to
rule and reign, And with faithful ones partakest
Of the bread and wine again, May we be among the
number Worthy to surround the board, And partake a-
new the emblems Of the suff'rings of our Lord.
Well I'm still catching up on lost sleep if that is even possible. Maybe it's me just getting old. SLK and I worked hard in the yard yesterday and the heat is rather draining. Kirby got his stitches out Friday and Dr. Greg said the knee feels good and tight. Kirby now gets to go for short walks around the block. If that dog could speak I know he would be saying how happy he is over that. He's still limping and tries not to use that leg much. Dr. Greg said he has muscle atrophy and walks and swimming will help correct that. RIGHT. You know how Kirby feels about the pool. He thinks it's a death trap. Well, I'll follow doctors order for swim therapy. That should be an interest experience/post. Do not, repeat, do not expect photos as I will be in a suit and that's not going to happen. This is a family rated blog you know and me in a suit would be obscene.
Hoping you have experienced a good Sabbath too. 3

Good Sabbath / Birthday
We've had a beautiful Sabbath. Awakened to a sunny morning, the song birds in this area are delightful to hear and I'm so enjoying their songs. Church is about a 20 minute drive through beautiful countryside and services were very nice. There are a lot of young families in their ward and many precious children.
We came home to celebrath J's 3rd birthday. He was so very, very excited with continual grins from ear to ear. C made a darling cake and I got to help with the mainstay "Fluffy Cocoa Frosting". Find the recipe at Knights In The Kitchen if interested. Hope you all have had a good Sabbath too.
