My Flag, My Country's Flag

I love my country's flag and the freedom's it represents. I love my country...even in her imperfections.
I will be flying Old Glory with great happiness tomorrow.
I sometimes tear-up as I hang her.
What are your feelings on her?
Below is a Robin Williams flag "tribute".
I've not always been a fan of Mr. Williams
but I was surprised at the love and respect that came across
in this presentation (and his humor).
Long, long may she wave.

P.S. I composed this post on Friday, February 10, 2012.

The Star-Spangled Banner

Do you know the last verse of this great anthem?

Oh, thus be it ever,

when free men shall stand

Between their loved homes

and the war's desolation!

Blest with vict'ry and peace,

may the heav'n-rescued land

Praise the Pow'r that hath made

and preserved us a nation!

Then conquer we must,

when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto:

"In God is our trust!"

And the star-spangled banner

in triumph shall wave

O'er the land of the free

and the home of the brave!

Go here for a moving, short history lesson on this song and what inspired it. I learned more than I learned in grade school.

Happy Day from MSK

Anticipating Our Independence Day Celebration

I thought you may be like me and love, love, love celebrating this great country of ours. Here's a few things to get you in the mood if you need that.

These cuties I call pinwheels but at the blog Allsorts they are called Star Spangled Pinspinners. That's cute too and since the blogger created them and is letting us have a free download to make our own I'll call them whatever she wants and be grateful.
Just click Allsorts and get your fre*ebie.

I think you'd need a pretty big table to pull this off but fine. I think it's so All-American looking. Get more inspirations from The Style Sisters.

I hope you will be flying our beautiful flag. In case you don't have one now is a fine time to purchase one as all the stores have them in stock for this occasion.

Memorial Day 2010

For all who sacrificed and those who died for this great country, thank you and your families.

I'm flying the flag here at home today. What an honor.
And who knew that that fun songster Ray Stevens was so opinionated. Hip hip hurray for Ray.

By Popular Demand

Per request, here is my post on my political activism of this week.

As a concerned, sane American citizen I have issues with the amount of debt we are being forced into. I also have many concerns about aspects of the current health bill set forth by our president, especially the public option. I attended a town hall meeting last week and listened to what my congressman had to say, especially about his health care bill...only 25 pages long and I can understand a whole lot of it. I agree that changes are needed!!! I like Rep. John Shade*gg's bill that would allow medical insurance companies to compete just like our auto and home insurance companies do thus being competitive and working to get our business and keep prices lower. He also has provisions to cover the uninsured and much, much more. Why am I not hearing about other such bills????

This week I joined friends Cheryl W., Patti S. and Connie C. and we traveled to Flagstaff to participate in the TeaParty Express Rally that is traveling across country. We were part of what one person estimated to be a group of 3,000.

Being a firm believer in expressing myself with respect and courtesy, here is my handmade sign.
Sorry Cheryl that this is not the most flattering photo of you but it sure is good of Patti. Here's her good smile. Again, I forgot my camera so these are cell phone pics.
The crowd was well behaved and my fears of being in a sea of rednec*ks did not materialize-thankfully. No ugly shouting or confrontation. Alot of cheering and I felt like I was part of a grass roots efforts to share opinion and heartfelt feelings.
When I watch the mainstream media I feel like "we" are depicted as a bunch of uneducated, hickish, rednecks. This large crowd was anything but!!!

Here is part of the live television broadcast. Later that night on Fox news I didn't see myself but I did see my sign bobbing up and down.
The cloudy skies and cooler temperatures were also a big relief from the valley heat we left. On the way home we got in a monsoon with wonderful lightening and rain. Just wish it would have lasted longer.

Memorial Day Pause

May we pause and remember why we have Memorial Day.

While most people are thankful to have a long weekend and spend time with their loved ones, many have forgotten the meaning of Memorial Day. Set on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day is a federal holiday designated for commemorating the fallen US soldiers who have died while in the military service. Although this day is typically reserved for soldiers, it's as good of a day as any to take some time and reflect on the heroic firefighters, police officers and anyone else who has given their life to defend our country, as well.

It's Almost September 11th

I remember that morning so clearly in 2001. I think of my mom telling me about the day she remembered Japan bombing American at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. These were horrible days. So much sadness and grief. So much loss. Freedom is hard won. Remaining free and helping others to be free continues to be difficult. These are hard times and yet I feel incredibly blessed. I feel rich in freedom and opportunity. I feel grateful to be an American. You know I'll be hauling out my flag and hanging it up on the house just as I did on September 11, 2001 when I was practically numb with grief. It was the least I could do. There are so many in our neighborhood that now fly our glorious flag. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you'll take the time to watch the following. Will you be flying our grand old flag on Thursday?
