Say hello to Singer. This little gem was my mom's sewing machine and the one on which I learned to sew. Sorry about that little yellow post-it note in the photo that I was using as a stitching guide; not too attractive.
Back in the day. . . all 6th through 8th grade girls had a class we called Home Ec. (Home Economics). I loved it. I have fun memories of stitching on paper designs as I learned control of a sewing machine and going to the store with Mom to pick out fabric for my first apron (I'm an apron freak to this day and wear one almost daily and I think I trace it back to my first sewing project). I also loved the cooking part of HomeEc. & the fun 1 semester we got to take Shop and did the woodworking thing!! I went on to take an additional year of Home Ec. at both Arcadia and David Douglas High Schools and am so glad I did. Even with just my basic skills it has been a blessing in my life.
Singer and I created many simple items of clothing but mainly skirts. Dear, dear friend Dorinne (not to be confused with darling daughter Dorinne/Dori, her namesake) was and is an excellent seamstress who coached me with great skill and patience. I'm still thankful to this day for all her loving guidance.
Singer and I diligently sewed skirts after Mom and I made a trip to Pendleton, Oregon to the Pendleton Woolen Mills and bought lovely wool for my freshman year winter wardrobe at BYU, 1967-68. Mom said if I sewed the skirts, she'd buy me sweaters to match. What a good deal!!! I wish I still had all those quality, wool skirts today but they disappeared at a barn sale in Joseph, Oregon...a whole other story but much too painful to share. Oh my dramatics again.
Trusty little Singer pulled through for me yet again this week when I needed to sew a couple baby blankets for 2 just born baby boys at church. You can see the blankets in the background. We will have fun visits tonight and hold darling baby boys and visit with the new mommies-the blessings of Relief Society for which I am very grateful. Thanks again Little Singer. Happy day.

It's really a beauty! Since you don't advertise your sewing skills, they always impress!
