Gentlemen & Ladies: Start your engines

Just another Monday morning walk with my big boy Kirby. I'm too lazy to get out the door at 6 a.m. when it's a tad cooler - right, like it's cool in AZ in July. We look forward to catching sight of a bunny or some quail by the Game and Fish but not today-all hiding . I'm in my head alot during my walks trying to work out plans, events, schedules, challenges but need to be somewhat alert. Several of you remember Pete, what a fixture in the neighborhood. Walking and talking to all into his 80's. He and I were alot alike - repeating stories. I knew well of his growing up in Chicago, father killed when Pete was an infant, WWII,wounded in Germany, recouperated in England, shipped back to Germany. He used the GI bill to attend college and then on to law school just to see if he could do it and pass the state bar. He did and then never practiced law. Married Carolyn "Yippie", nickname stuck as soon as she was born and her dad saw she was a girl and shouted yippie. Pete passed a couple of years ago and I miss him. We usually visit with a couple of Beagles now days that poke their noses through an opening in a concrete block fence. Today we rounded a corner and came upon a lose, unattended Pitbull!!!! She started running for us & I instantly remembered every news report of maulings by Pitbulls. Kirby, bless his big heart, decided to run to her. Great - impending death by mauling & trying to control my 100 lb. dog. I start yelling & waving my arms at the pb, does no good - isn't this a cute mental picture. I next forever change a neighbors desert landscape by grabbing handfuls of rock and throwing it at the attacker. Took 3 throws and a lot of yelling but I've lived to blog another day. My heart was pounding and racing for several minutes after this episode. I was very blessed. Now, I ask you the question:
What starts your engine?

Imagining you fending off a pitbull (knowing after the fact that you are safe and sound) made me laugh. That pitbull didn't know who he was up against.

C-Several years ago. Girls or Andy, can you remember? (none of them know I have a blog yet so we'll see when we get a response.

Aunt Sue!!! I was so thrilled to receive your blog address. I don't know how to save them all, so I have kept Christie's in my email inbox and click on hers to get to everyone else's too...I'm pretty slow when it comes to computers. Your blog is fabulous. You did such a great job. I am so happy the pitbull didn't get you or Kirby. What a frightening experience. I don't care much for pitbulls -too dangerous and scarey. I'm sorry you had to go through that!! Your poor little heart. You will have to show me some tricks to create my own blog when you come up. That will be fun. I love you so much and can't wait to see you. Be safe and know I love you!!

The only thing that "starts my engine" like that is when I HEAR a snake on the hiking trials. If I see one, I jump. If I HEAR one, I RUN!

Great blog. WELCOME to the wonderful and creative world of blogging. You have a better start than I ever did. Isn't our helper WONDERFUL!

The picture was at Andy's birthday a few years ago in their old home, I think.

Kirby's "bark" starts my engine! He can shoot me a few inches off my seat! I remember one night in your neighborhood and fending off TWO pitbulls by screaming and kicking them away from Nicki! I still have a knot in my shin from kicking them so hard!

Thanks for all your comments. You make a new blogger feel sooo good.
T-thanks for info on photo. You have been a great help in setting up this blog. Kirby's barks are rather startling at times.
C-Glad I could give you a laugh...really.
E-I'm always ready to help anyway I can but Trevlyn's the expert here.
A-Snakes, yikes. A real engine starter!

OOOOH, I get a yucky feeling just thinking about it. I HATE pitbulls. There is one that sometimes lives across the street and I don't care how well trained it looks, whenever it is out with the owner (usually unleashed) I kind of freak and make the kids come in immediately. I had a run-in with a Rottweiler a few years ago. In a close neighborhood I sometimes walk through, I always come across wandering dogs and I do not like it! You never know what could happen. I am glad you didn't die by mauling, oh yuck! I haven't seen the pic yet, and I just saw the email about the blog - love it!

It's great to see that you've joined all those fun bloggers! You always tell such funny stories- I loved this one about you and brave Kirby (you seemed pretty brave too)!

S-thanks for your sweet visit and comment. We were both brave. I've had a friend call me and tell me that pitbull is on the loose still. I think I might get some pepper spray to take with us on our walks.
