Mexican Bird of Paradise
I do try not to be contrary. I suggested that I would also try not to complain about AZ summers in my blog. Well, "how do my flowers grow" in this heat. I've pulled most potted plants under the patio-getting very little direct scorching. Many have tried valiantly to survive, some have succumbed. My nightly ritual of hand watering is about 40 minutes long. What would I do if we didn't have auto sprinklers for the lawn; I'm just watering my "potted friends". I take this all very personally. They become family. Some are even my babies I have propagated. That is big to me people. On the positive side, I am amazed that there are some varieties that survive and thrive in our summers!! I even grow a few of those. So here's a tribute to those blooming buddies of mine. Enjoy. (giggle...now I have to see if I can get my photos pasted somewhere close to this entry-still learning the tricks folks!! You may have to look around to find any flower photos..still slightly giggling)

Your flowers are gorgeous and they're lucky to have your love and patience!
Beautiful flowers MarySue. My own life would not be decorated with beautiful flowers, if it hadn't of been for my mother-in-law. What a lovely gift you have given me.
Beautiful, I always look at your pictures of the pool and yard and think how beautiful your flowers look compared to mine. But I am still int he novious stage. Thanks for sharing with us your beautiful flowers.
Our flowers, grass, and herbs are struggling! I don't know if it's too much water or not enough or fertilization, etc.? The tomatoes are starting to ripen and we've had few yummy ones. I am not sure if we have any "female" squash as you mentioned, still waiting to see. The pumpkin vine is growing like mad, the watermelon doesn't look too good, and one tomato plant is being eaten alive by some critter. Just an update and we too spend about 30-40 minutes a night hand-watering/monitoring the sprinklers. I can't imagine the extra care it takes in 120 degrees!
A-I think the watermelon plants are in a lot of shade and that could keep them from thriving. A little fertilizer would help everything. Don't you just get steamed when critters eat your plants!!! Zukes will produce. Just be patient and in the meantime, look for zucchini recipes and friends with which to share your bountiful crop (hopefully).
