The Power of Forgiveness

What a great Saturday. We had our buddy Tessa for a sleepover last night and that was just plain FUN. We started the day early with watering the flowers and making cinnamon rolls. Linny and Jared flew in for a 3 day weekend and when they arrived we made sourdough hotcakes and bacon to go with the cinnamon rolls. There is some fun going on in the pool now and I've retreated to my room to put the final touches on the Relief Society lesson for tomorrow. My sweet friend Becca of Daily Grapefruit fame is the regular teacher and she's out of state. I'm so pleased she asked me to fill in. Although I get "nervous" teaching it is a blessing to study and get in depth on a subject. You could take just 1 minute and read this small section from lesson 34, THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS and get a feel for the joy this study has been for me. Happy Saturday to you.
Teachings of Joseph Smith
We are to exercise the principle of mercy and forgive our brothers and sisters.
“One of the most pleasing scenes that can occur on earth, when a sin has been committed by one person against another, is, to forgive that sin; and then according to the sublime and perfect pattern of the Savior, pray to our Father in heaven to forgive [the sinner] also.”4
“Ever keep in exercise the principle of mercy, and be ready to forgive our brother on the first intimations of repentance, and asking forgiveness; and should we even forgive our brother, or even our enemy, before he repent or ask forgiveness, our heavenly Father would be equally as merciful unto us.”5
“Bear and forbear one with another, for so the Lord does with us. Pray for your enemies in the Church and curse not your foes without: for vengeance is mine, saith the Lord, and I will repay [see Romans 12:19]. To every ordained member, and to all, we say, be merciful and you shall find mercy. Seek to help save souls, not to destroy them: for verily you know, that ‘there is more joy in heaven, over one sinner that repents, than there is over ninety and nine just persons that need no repentance.’ [See Luke 15:7.]”

I would never be one to say I like to give a lesson as it makes a nervous reck out of me! That's why I'm so grateful for people like you who do say "Yes". I love you and I think you are GREAT!!!

A great lesson we should "re-read" every now and then. It is way to easy to forget in such a busy and crazy time. Love ya, Skippie

Thank you so much for covering for me while I was gone. And thanks for listening that night on the phone, when I called to ask you to teach and ended up shedding a few tears. I so much appreciate your friendship, and willingness to teach. Are you available next month? :)

(Just kidding...)
