Last evening I pulled out the extra sheets to cover as many of the plants as possible.
I was so hoping they would stay cozy and safe. After this mornings survey I think most are okay but some didn't make it. I take this so personally. Oh the burden when you love plants.
Do you have school lunch memories you would share please. I'd love to hear what you recall . . . hopefully with fondness.

Plants uncovered and most of the sheets had to be hung up on my solar drier they were so drenched. Kirby and I had a good 2 miler and the frost was thick throughout the neighborhood with many roofs snow-white, and lawns white and crunchy looking-ours included.
How nice to get into a warm house with all the sun now streaming into those south windows. The sky is brilliant Arizona blue and by Friday we are to be basking in 70* weather. Poor Super Bowl fans who got less than our usual sunny, winter weather .
A bowl of hot oatmeal with "bugs" and drizzled with honey is just the thing to completely warm me. Bugs (raisins) are a tribute to Mom who regularly put them in my cream of wheat or cream of rice cereal for breakfast as I was growing up. I'm glad I carried on that healthy, iron-rich tradition from the time you kiddos were babies.
Thanks Mom for all the hot breaksfasts and even hot lunches at times you made for Cindy, Jode and me. In my "good old days" in Lewiston, ID and Webster Elementary school, it wasn't unusual to walk home for a lunch prepared by Mom who was an excellent cook. I also have treasured memories of purchasing lunch at school that was all made from scratch, hot, yummy and you could go back for seconds if you cleared your plate. Also fun memories of taking my lunch to school and in winter it would include a thermos of hot Campbells soup, usually chicken noodle. I love that memory. I love thermos' of hot soup or cocoa. Doesn't take much to get me smiling here. Oh, it is only partially related to food.
As you can see, I'm prepared for at least a little outing in the cold. Soup and cocoa or maybe herb tea. I'm such a scout.

I can't leave without doing my patriotic duty. Here's my shirt today. Proudly displaying my sticker...I'm one of those early voters by mail.

So I was at the nursery today and I was shown a product that you spray on your outdoor plants (all kinds) and it protects your plants from freezing for up to 3 months! No more covering needed! It's what the nursery uses. The man I was talking to said, "I wish the Garden Guy would tell people about this."
kms-Wow,I've never heard of this product. I hope it's affordable. Thanks for sharing this info.
Your ice is awesome!!! Closest we'll get to icicles here! I can remember taking soup in thermoses in grade school. The worst was when I forgot to bring them home and by the time I got around to cleaning it there were living organisms in it!!!
The sad thing is...we were total cafeteria kids ($.85 every day!). I always envied my best friend Lorian's turkey and sprout sandwiches.
I noticed the super bowl game dome was closed due to the "cold". What is it like 62 degrees?
School lunch - I remember the lunch lady(sometimes my mom) watching and making sure we didn't trade food. We had to eat what we brought.
I mostly brown bagged it - literally. I always made and ate 2 (count them, 4 pieces of bread) peanutbutter and honey sandwiches. I was a skinny girl, but needed the extra sandwich to have energy to chase the boys at lunch. I think there was an apple involved, but I definately remember buying a milk - or rather an "orange" drink in a carton. It wasn't juice, but I loved it - at the time. (Now the thought of drinking a sugar punch drink makes me gag.)
Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
My favorite school lunches were vegtable soup ( which usually came at the end of the week and was made up of all the leftovers of the previous four days. I did hate finding spagetti noodles in my veg. soup). It was always served with a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I also loved chili days which were served with the same sandwich. I also remember looking forward to 6th grade because you could get the salad bar. I have always and still do loved a good salad.
Love your stories and you for sharing. Hope you all have a good lunch today.
