Well, I did send away for the free starter and it arrived. I'm stoked!! Here's what my little baggie/package of dried starter looks like.
Now isn't this just the coolest thing that "folks" like Charles Perry - can you make out his name on the label above- wants to help perpetuate this culture of Carl's, go to the bother of spreading sourdough in a thin layer, dry it then ship it off to little ole me in a baggie and all I had to do was ask, and I was polite, and send a SASE (you all know that is Self Addressed Stamped Envelope don't you...well, some of you may be like me and get a little confused with DH, or SAHM etc. I just look at them as brain teasers but I digress). Now I will confess that this treasure arrived while I was in OREGON and I have yet to get creative with it. Truly been busy but...there were no directions with the dried starter and I've not worked with it that way. I'm assuming I will need to add it to warm water but I ask myself, how much warm water. I certainly don't want to ruin this. I hope next week to get brave and develop my new strain of sourdough and then return and report. Wish me luck.
Hey, hold on, I just had a flash. I forgot to return and report that the starter I made for the W fam in OREGON took longer than anticipated to get really cultured/developed/sour smelling, I think 12 days but it did turn out well and we enjoyed a great breakfast of sourdough hotcakes. Jody reports she has since made another batch of hotcakes and they were deeeelicious. Have any of you been tempted to sourdough. Let me help you if you need it. Such fun. Happy trails.

Whenever we were kids, you could NEVER make enough sourdough pancakes! They'd always dissapear before we could get enough!!!
T-I know this is just a tribute to the yummy taste of sourdough hotcakes and not that I was a stingy cook. Thanks for sharing your memory.
