Which assembly-line do you most identify with? Lucy and Ethel
or Laverne and Shirley?
I'd choose candy over beer any day!!! I was thinking of both of these very funny classics this morning as I was working on the assembly line. I had the privilege of traveling to Mesa to the church cannery for our monthly assignment to serve - totally volunteer. I get to do this regularly and find it rather uplifting...except when the heat is almost demonic and the blowers would just super mess up my big-hair-do but I'm allowed to wear a hair net - mandatory actually. Why couldn't I wear something cute like Lucy's chef hat or a bandanna like Laverne's? Safety folks. You don't want hair in your goods. And do you want to even try to envision what a big-hair-do gal looks like after a few hours under a snug hairnet. Sad, very sad. So sad you'd want to offer me a handout thinking I was a homeless person. Today we got to can dehydrated refried beans. Do I hear some snickering. You just might not know how popular these are and they are purchased off the shelves quickly-but then this is the land of southwest bean-cuisine. You might be surprised what you can do with a can of dehydrated refried beans...leave it to me to give you the surprising recipe for...
Pinto Bean Fudge
1 c. cooked, soft pinto beans, drained and mashed or the reconstituted equivalent of
rehydratrefried beans.
1/4 c. milk
1 T. vanilla
2 lbs. powdered sugar
6 oz. unsweetened chocolate
6 T. butter
Nuts optional
In large bowl stir beans and milk together, adding enough milk to resemble mashed potatoes in consistency; stir in vanilla. Melt chocolate and butter and stir into bean mixture. Add nuts. Gradually stir in powdered sugar to get it well blended. Spread into lightly buttered 9 inch baking dish or form into two 1 1/2 " rolls. Chill 1-2 hours. Cut into pieces. Refrigerate.
I've eaten this my friends and it was a really big, yummy, surprisingly good treat. I'd classify it as either a "high protein treat" or a "toot treat". Get it? If you make it will you return and report? If you are fortunate to have the very, bright, yellow BASIC FOOD STORAGE COOKBOOK, from the Mesa Home Storage Center you can find the recipe there on page 18 and many other smart recipes for your beans. I'm sure I've given all you kids a copy of that treasure and hold on to it because it is no longer available. Are you going to suspect all the treats I serve in the future? You should. Now go be a good Scout and Be Prepared-add to your food storage. If I get in another funny mood I may share the recipe for "Almond Joy" candies made from potato pearls!! Loves.

Definitely Lucy! Chocolate Now!!! I've tasted this recipe and it's good! I don't know, though, we have enough tootin' going on at our place to fuel our Suburban! ;)
I like the music on Laverne and Shirley better. So I guess I vote Laverne, although chocolate rules!
Lucy, definitely Lucy!!
Lucy in my book. I will take chocolate anytime.
