GOOD SABBATH

I have been thinking about music lately. I could say I'm a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll - the old Donny & Marie song title applies. I have tried this week to focus more on music to uplift and edify. This is not to say I will abandon all other types of music. I'm just broadening my musical horizon. So very many times I have felt the spiritual influence when singing hymns. Often I have been moved to tears through singing hymns as the Spirit has touched me. This week while driving I was listening to the CD Music From TIME OUT for Women - Music to celebrate Life, Love and Learning. The title alone got my interest. The second cut by Gladys Knight singing Sisters in Christ had me crying. I repeated it multiple times to get the words in my brain and I began singing along as best I could...Sister Knight singing Sister Knight..cool!

The quality of ones voice does not matter. Singing hymns has the power to inspire and motivate to a more Christlike life.

Psalms 95:1-2 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

Psalms 100:1 O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

One of my favorite memories is singing in the Paradise Lane ward choir several years ago; we were a very small choir led my our outstanding director Alicann L. & accompanied by the equally outstanding Susan E. - miss you Susan. We had been preparing our Christmas music which was beautiful. It is my feeling personally that no matter how busy life is during the holidays, singing in the choir is my/a gift at Christmas to my savior. Knowing we needed more voices I contacted my out of state children Andy, Jesse and Linny to consider joining the choir knowing they would arrive back home for the holidays just prior to our performance and only have 1 hour to learn the songs and hymns. I ended up getting sick and literally had no voice, just could not sing after all the practices & I felt so sad. I sat in the congregation that Sunday before Christmas, watched my willing and talented kids along with SLK sing and the tears flowed just like they are now remembering the occasion. Thank you dear family!
That's my thought for today. I hope you have a blessed day and make a joyful noise. Go here to listen to Come Unto Him.

My earliest emphasis on music/singing was in Lake Oswego. You deco'd a Whitman's sampler size box and place a treat in there for the kid who sang the best at Church that Sunday. "A song of the righteous is a prayer unto me.." was written on it. The humerous part is that the treat was usually a carob Tiger's Milk bar. Still a treat though.

I just always love remembering singing with your family at your son's missionary farewells! I especially loved it when the missionary themselves sung with us. What a tear jerker.
