Yeehaw and Yahoo!
I get to go to the Clackamas County Fair and Rodeo tomorrow (Friday). If you know me, you know I am one happy gal!! Maybe we can get in on a little cattle showing & judging, walk up and down the livestock pavilions, eat something not so healthy like a corn dog while thinking of Christie and yell, hoot and holler for the cowboys (and girls if there is barrel racing) at the rodeo. We had a fun dinner tonight and Erik flew back to Mesa leaving Sylvia and Avery to visit a few more days. Jody's without a sourdough starter, don't ask, so I'm trying my own blog advice and making one since Jody doesn't know anyone to get a start from. Let's hope it works. Again, I wish you were all here. And that's the truth. 3

Tonight will be so fun. Sorry all you readers have to miss out on the family rodeo tradition.
I have a recipe for sourdough start from the 'back to basics' cookbook:
2 cups un-sifted flour(can use whole wheat)
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
1 1/2 cup water
1 Tablespoon vinegar
In non-metallic container combine flour, sugar and salt. Mix well. Add water and beat to a smooth batter, add vinegar. Cover with cheesecloth; set iun a warm place until thoroughly sour. You determine this by the yeasty smell. Usually takes about 12 hours.
There are also a few recipes which we probably already have from your book, english muffins, coffee cake, blueberry muffins, and oatmeal cookies.
I can imagine the fun you are having! Love, Boo
Okay, I feel like an idiot. I searched your blog and found YOUR recipe for the starter. I just thought it was interesting since I just came across the starter recipe in the last few days. I also think its interesting that this recipe does not call for yeast? I am just stoked we have your heirloom sourdough start (of course it's probably the 3rd time you gave it to us that we finally started to use it!)
Hope you got some good pictures of the rodeo!!! I SOOOOOOOO wish we were there! XO!
Good to hear from you sweet gals. Never hurts to have another sourdough start recipe Annette. So far this one is doing well. I too have seen recipes that do not use yeast. Wishing you were all up here still; so much fun stuff to do.
