Serving in Cubs!!!

I'm currently serving in the Primary Presidency in my church. The Primary is the "children's organization" for children ages 18 months to 11 years old, girls and boys. One of my responsibilities is serving on the Cub Scout Committee. Yes, I am trained with the BSA (Boy Scouts of America), attend a variety of meetings and wear my uniform...proudly. I serve with really fine people who also give much time and talent. A week ago was our Pinewood Derby. This is a BIG DEAL. I worked at the sign in table where we weighed in each car, and registered every boy and their car, took pictures and got the awards ready. FUN.

Just thought I'd share this fun with you. And I'd just like to say that any gal should jump with joy to serve in Primary. Even an "old gal".

Good Sabbath

I'm trying hard to be more focused on being an earthly angel. Reaching out more. Forgetting self more. Not just being concerned but showing concern through actions. I know I do and will stumble in my efforts but I'll keep trying. I pray my heart and words will be full of love. I first heard this Alabama song Angels Among Us at Shalene's funeral. I'll never forget it or her. Hope you listen to the message and also have a good Sabbath.

Service...really?

Here I go again...Friday was to be a stay at home day and work. Goodness knows there are several areas that need my attention. Then I get another morning phone call. This time it's from a sister in the ward that's a widow and doesn't drive and can I please take her grocery shopping and to the cleaners. Of course I can. And Kirby did get in his walk first. Well, the blessings come from giving service no doubt. That's a lesson I'm grateful I've learned. This sweet friend loves, loves to garage sale shop and when we passed one such event on her street (that I had spotted driving to her house and knew there would be nothing there of value) we stopped so she could check it out. Yes, of course, I got out of the car and looked around. I noticed a roaster....I am in the gathering stage for roasters for the ward Christmas dinner and I need more. This one would not due. TOO FILTHY. To call it filthy is a compliment. It was beyond filthy. I had actually priced roasters at Wally's the day before and at $29.00 I didn't buy one. So why did this grungy thing pull me back to it??? I finally asked if it even worked and the seller had a sad story. She was just layed off (or is that laid off) from work and her friends had brought over all their cast offs so she could have this sale. She didn't know if the roaster worked since it wasn't hers and when I asked if we could plug it in somewhere and check if it worked she hesitated. She said if I bought it and then it didn't work I could return it. I asked the price and her response of $2.00 sucked me in.
Well, it works and after soaking for 7 hours and more elbow grease then I've used in years on an appliance look at this pretty roaster I now call mine. Note: Don't email me or call me or comment or text and tell me...again...to stop bringing junk home!!! Really. You know who you are :) And if you live locally and need to borrow a roaster, you know who to contact. You do know it's always much easier to clean your own filth compared to a strangers. Shiver. That's all I have to say.

My Week...So Far

I've been blessed to be part of a most wonderful group of sisters, ladies from church that were putting on a big Mother Daughter Enrichment Night - 3rd annual - with a princess theme. I've been rounding up costumes and tiaras. We even have young gals at church excited to dress up as the princesses and they have waistlines!!! Small ones. The little girls loved the princesses. We gathered Tuesday morning to set up tables and chairs for 75 (we should have set up for 80-85 such a good attendance), decorate and fix a light dinner that was mainly finger foods. Such cute sandwiches cut into hearts, diamonds, flowers and angels shapes. Fruit kabob assembly was sweet fun. Many friends made mini pink cupcakes, assorted cookies and brownie tarts and I made the requested broccoli salad. We mistakenly thought there would be several who didn't like such a salad and I was told to only make enough to serve 50. Mistake again, we ran out. For those of you who asked, the broccoli salad recipe is at Knight's In The Kitchen - just another testament that if you put enough bacon into anything, people will love it. After frying 2 1/2 pounds of bacon the house smelled delightful but the washing and breaking into small florets 9 heads of broccoli put me horizontal for a couple of hours. It was a great evening and I was thrilled that Trevlyn and Tessa joined me.

Each little girls was greeted and given her own tiara. The centerpieces on the tables were vases filled with star topped wands for each little princess. And at each place setting was a Dis.ney princess spiral notebook that the little princesses got the big princesses to autograph.

Another darling friend, also a Becca, with cute daughter. I think they are into the Macaraina (spelling?) dance here. I also regularly read her fun blog Becca and Fam.

This could be the hokey pokey. It was fun to watch. We were too shy to dance. That's okay, "she" came.

This is for you Noelene. This is just a little compared to all the help you have so wonderfully and generously given to my kiddos and me. Noelene and the MOB (mother's of brides) cater our wedding receptions. We give of our love, service and abilities and consider it a privilege. I couldn't be more grateful. I spent today making about 140ish dinner rolls for her sons wedding open house tomorrow. I should also give credit to her husband Kent who works right along side her expertly. Good friend Audra is also making rolls and we used her recipe. You can find the recipe on her blog Little Moments Like This. I recommend it...the recipe and her blog!

I know you noticed the missing rolls in the center of the pan but really, I had to test for doneness. Don't you????? And of course you test with a very little pat of butter also.

I'll show up at the C's house early tomorrow to finish food prep, serve and stay to the very end until all is cleaned up. That's just what friends do.
